Imphal, Manipur, March 10 (HBTV): Two people reportedly died and another person sustained serious injuries when an armed group assaulted people at Motbung Bazar in Manipur Kangpokpi district, reports received here on March 10 stated.

The incident happened on Saturday evening at all important National Highway 102 which connects Imphal with Dimapur. The two deceased persons were identified as one Janlunglang and a Jangminglen, both from Sapermeina. The injured person has been identified as one Paominthang.

Both the dead bodies are currently lying at Letpao Hospital in Motbung Bazar. According to the sources the incident happened at Motbung Bazar when an armed group started beating up people who reportedly used intoxicants.    

Later on a large number of the people came out at Motbung Bazar. Police brought the matter under control. The injured person is said to have been shifted to a hospital at Dimapur.

The incident could be seen as a sign of armed groups and militant organizations running called parallel governments in different parts of Manipur.

No armed group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.   

However, it is suspected that a militant group which is in a Suspension of Operations agreement with the government of India could be involved in the incident.
