New Delhi [India], June 26 (HBTV): Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij met Union Minister of Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal in the national capital.
During the meeting, Vij proposed the initiation and operation of a Metro rail service between Ambala and Chandigarh. He noted that Chandigarh, being a Union Territory and the shared capital of both Punjab and Haryana, functions as a major transit hub. The two leaders discussed the proposal in detail, and the Union Minister assured Vij of prompt action, according to a press release.
Speaking to the media following the meeting, Vij stated that the Ambala-Chandigarh road is witnessing increasingly heavy traffic. He emphasised that hundreds of people travel daily between the two cities and there is now a pressing need for a Metro service to ease commuter burden.
‘The road between Ambala and Chandigarh remains congested throughout the day and passengers face significant inconvenience,’ Vij said. He stressed the need for alternative modes of transport beyond road travel and added, ‘As a representative of hundreds of thousands of people, it is my responsibility to raise their issues with the authorities, and my voice is never ignored.’
When asked about ongoing power cuts and rising electricity demand during the summer season, the Haryana Minister said that a key reason for power disruption is inadequate transformer capacity. Since taking charge as Energy Minister, he had directed the augmentation of all power transformers across the state. Most of these transformers have now been upgraded or replaced to handle higher loads, he added.
Vij also informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently laid the foundation stone for a thermal power unit in Yamunanagar. Additionally, new thermal power projects are being planned in Hisar and Panipat, and a nuclear power plant is under development.
