The NIA has filed a chargesheet against three associates of a CPI (Maoist) frontal organisation in a Chhattisgarh case related to the collection, disbursal, and utilisation of Naxal terror funds.

New Delhi [India], August 31 (HBTV): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against three associates of a CPI (Maoist) frontal organisation in a Chhattisgarh case related to the collection, disbursal, and utilisation of Naxal terror funds.

The accused have been identified as Gajendra Madvi, Laxman Kunjam, and Raghu Midyami. All three were office bearers of Moolwasi Bachao Manch (MBM), an outfit banned by the state government under Section 3(1) of the Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act. They were earlier arrested in connection with the case.

The case pertains to the recovery of INR 6 lakh from Madvi and Kunjam, who were allegedly on their way to deposit the money in different bank accounts on the instructions of leaders of the proscribed CPI (Maoist). The case was initially registered by Bijapur Police in March 2023, before being taken over by the NIA in February 2024.

Investigations revealed that Midyami was the president of MBM and played a key role in the collection, storage, and disbursal of illegal funds for CPI (Maoist) and its affiliated organisations. The funds were used to finance activities such as organising protests against the establishment of security camps in Maoist-affected areas. According to NIA, Midyami was the nodal person responsible for distributing the funds at the local level.

Further investigation into the case is underway.

Separately, on August 21, NIA arrested another accused in connection with the 2019 Tamil Nadu Ramalingam murder case linked to the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). The agency said the murder was aimed at spreading fear and communal hatred.

NIA teams carried out searches at nine locations in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul and Tenkasi districts to trace absconding proclaimed offenders in the case. During the operation, the agency arrested Imthathullah, proprietor of Ambur Biryani Hotels in Kodaikanal, for allegedly harbouring absconding accused at his hotel outlets since 2021. Incriminating documents and digital devices were also seized during the searches.
