Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 15 (HBTV): Canarys Automations Ltd, a provider of technology solutions and water resources management packages, has announced the inauguration of the Urban Flood Management Cell (UFMC) in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The UFMC was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the Gorakhpur Municipal Office premises. The facility will serve as the central hub for the city’s early warning and flood management system, operating on the principle of ‘Predict, Prepare, and Protect.’
Supported by the Mayor of Gorakhpur and the Commissioner of Nagar Nigam Gorakhpur, the initiative aims to strengthen disaster preparedness and smart urban planning. The UFMC will operate as a real-time nerve centre for flood management, building upon systems deployed during the May 2025 monsoon.
The project is expected to enhance safety, reduce property damage, and minimise disruption to daily life through proactive flood management and timely alerts. Canarys has committed to continuously improving its U-FFEWS platform to further strengthen urban resilience.
Dr Saumya Srivastava, Centre Head, Urban Flood Management Centre, Municipal Corporation Gorakhpur, said, ‘There was a time when one day of rain meant no school. Children would stay home because waterlogging was inevitable. Today, in Gorakhpur, those rainy day holidays have become rare. Even after hours of rain, children are still able to reach school safely. The city doesn’t shut down when it rains, and that is a big shift. As someone who grew up here and now heads the Urban Flood Management Centre, I have seen firsthand how far we have come.’
