New Delhi [India], June 18 (HBTV): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against an accused in connection with the targeted killing of an Indian Army personnel in Chhattisgarh in February 2024, according to an official statement issued by the agency.
The chargesheet has been filed against Ashu Korsa, a resident of Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), under Section 302 read with 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860, and Sections 16, 18, 20, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P)A) before the NIA Special Court in Jagdalpur.
NIA investigations revealed that the accused was involved in a criminal conspiracy orchestrated by the proscribed terrorist organisation CPI (Maoist) to kill Indian Army personnel Motiram Achala. The victim was shot dead by an armed Maoist cadre while attending a village fair with his family on February 25, 2024, in Useli village, Amabeda area of Kanker district.
The case, initially registered by the local police, was taken over by the NIA on February 29, 2024. Subsequent investigation established that Korsa was an active armed cadre of the Kuyemari Area Committee, which operates under the CPI (Maoist)’s North Bastar Division.
According to the agency, Korsa, along with a senior Maoist leader, had identified and tracked Motiram Achala before executing the attack in a crowded local market. He was arrested by the NIA in December 2024 for his role in the conspiracy, which aimed to spread fear among local residents.
The NIA stated that further investigation into the case is ongoing.
