Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has voiced strong support for the 'One Nation, One Election' initiative, asserting that it would accelerate India’s development and reduce poll expenditure.

Gurugram (Haryana) [India], June 18 (HBTV): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday voiced strong support for the 'One Nation, One Election' initiative, asserting that it would accelerate India’s development and significantly reduce election-related expenditure.

Speaking at a marathon held in Gurugram to promote the proposal, CM Saini said frequent elections disrupt the pace of governance and stall ongoing development work.

‘The main objective of today's race is to dedicate it to the important idea of “One Nation, One Election”. This is not just a marathon but an important step towards change. It is a resolution, a movement,’ the Chief Minister said.

He added that the idea embodies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to streamline governance and deepen democratic participation across the country.

‘This idea is not just an issue of administrative convenience. It is an effort to further strengthen the democratic consciousness of India,’ Saini said.

Highlighting the impact of frequent polls, CM Saini noted that Haryana had entered election mode on April 13, which had slowed down developmental activities. ‘The pace of development stops. The Prime Minister's vision is that we have to become a developed nation, so One Nation, One Election will play an important role in that and the country will move forward at a fast pace,’ he said.

He also emphasised the cost-saving aspect of the initiative. ‘This will reduce expenses a lot and the country will move towards a developed nation. We all should support this call,’ he added.

The marathon event, according to the Chief Minister, was more than just a symbolic gesture. It represented a public commitment to national reform and administrative efficiency.

The 'One Nation, One Election' proposal, currently being reviewed by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), seeks to align the election cycles of the Lok Sabha and all state assemblies, aiming to bring uniformity and reduce the frequency of polls across the nation.
