Governor post is not a post to take rest: Newly appointed Haryana Governor Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh

Upon being appointed as the governor of Haryana by President Droupadi Murmu, Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh stated that the position was not one meant for rest.

Howrah (West Bengal) [India], July 27 (HBTV): Upon being appointed as the Governor of Haryana by President Droupadi Murmu, Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh on Monday stated that the position is not one meant for rest, and praised Haryana for its high per capita income and progress in agriculture.

Prof Ghosh, a respected academic and political thinker, said the people of Haryana are ‘laborious’ and highlighted agriculture as a key sector in which the state has shown improvement.

‘Governor post is not a post to take rest... Haryana has improved a lot. The per capita income of the people of Haryana is high. The people of Haryana are very laborious. Agriculture is a very important sector where Haryana has improved a lot,’ Ghosh told ANI.

He further stated that the present government in Haryana is doing its best to improve the state's condition. As the future constitutional head, he said it would be a ‘great responsibility’ to advise the government for the ‘betterment’ of the people.

‘Haryana has improved a lot, and the present leadership is doing its best to improve the condition of the people of Haryana. As the Constitutional Head in future, it will be my great responsibility to advise the government for the betterment and upliftment of the people of Haryana,’ he said.

Along with Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh, President Droupadi Murmu also appointed former Union Minister Pasupathi Ashok Gajpathi Raju as the new Governor of Goa and Kavinder Gupta as the new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, replacing Brigadier BD Mishra (Retd).

BD Mishra, a former Brigadier of the Indian Army and ex-Commander of the Counter Hijack Force of the National Security Guard (NSG), retired on July 31, 1995, after a career spanning more than 33 years. He was appointed Governor of Arunachal Pradesh on October 3, 2017.

The President appointed the 85-year-old Mishra as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh after accepting the resignation of Radha Krishnan Mathur on February 12, 2023. Mishra served as the second LG of Ladakh following Mathur’s term from October 31, 2019, to February 11, 2023.

Kavinder Gupta, who will succeed BD Mishra, is a senior BJP leader from Jammu and Kashmir and formerly served as Deputy Chief Minister under Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
