New Delhi [India], June 25 (HBTV): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Minister of Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal jointly visited the Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana in Gorakhpur, Fatehabad district, on Saturday.
During the visit, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of ongoing construction works and directed officials to complete all tasks in accordance with prescribed standards at the earliest. He stressed that nuclear energy is an environmentally superior source of power generation.
In a review meeting, Jivendra Kumar Jain, Project Director of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), delivered a detailed presentation, according to an official release. He shared updates on the work being done by the Department of Atomic Energy and NPCIL, including the construction of the Gorakhpur Nuclear Power Plant, efforts to expand nuclear power production, and various CSR and public awareness programmes in the region.
Union Minister Manohar Lal stated that this ambitious project will not only address Haryana’s long-term energy needs but will also benefit the entire northern region of India. He noted that it reinforces the nation’s commitment to clean and sustainable energy solutions and will contribute significantly toward India’s goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2070.
Describing the project as a visionary initiative, he said it marks a major step in enhancing the country’s leadership and self-reliance in nuclear energy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
During the review meeting, the Union Minister received detailed information about the ongoing construction activities and instructed officials to ensure timely completion while maintaining established safety standards. He emphasised the importance of public outreach to dispel any misconceptions about nuclear safety and directed officers to engage with residents in nearby areas to explain the safety measures implemented for the project.
He further underscored the need for effective utilisation of CSR funds, instructing officials to collaborate with administrative officers and public representatives to prioritise visionary development initiatives.
Highlighting the economic and environmental benefits of nuclear energy, Manohar Lal noted that nuclear power plants are more cost-effective in the long term and have minimal environmental impact compared to other energy sources.
He also directed that over 20,000 saplings be planted within the plant premises during the upcoming monsoon season to promote environmental sustainability.
The Union Minister added that all states have been encouraged to explore the feasibility of establishing nuclear plants, with the goal of ensuring that at least one such facility is set up wherever possible. He also emphasised the need to expand existing nuclear infrastructure to meet the nation’s future energy demands.
