Gurugram (Haryana) [India], July 18 (HBTV): Following incessant overnight rainfall, several parts of Gurugram are facing severe waterlogging. Latest visuals from the Narsinghpur area showed waterlogged roads, causing traffic slowdowns and creating difficulties for pedestrians.

Earlier, due to the heavy rainfall, the Gurugram district administration had advised all corporate offices and private institutions to ask employees to work from home on Thursday, July 10, in an effort to ease traffic congestion.

In the 12-hour period from 7 pm on July 9 to 7 am on July 10, Gurugram received 133 mm of rainfall, including an ‘extremely intense spell’ of 103 mm between 7:30 pm and 9:00 pm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for the region.

Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) have also been experiencing continuous rainfall since Wednesday night. The downpour brought much-needed relief from intense humidity and high temperatures, with overcast skies prevailing across the region.

According to the IMD, Delhi is expected to see a ‘generally cloudy sky with moderate rain’, along with predictions of ‘thunderstorm with rain’ over the next three days. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh has forecast ‘generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers’ for Gurugram over the next two days.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan’s Ajmer also witnessed waterlogging in many areas following heavy rainfall. The IMD has forecast ‘thunderstorm with rain’ conditions in the district to persist till July 13. Earlier, the agency had noted that active monsoon conditions are likely to continue over central parts of the country for the next four to five days.

Delhi is also facing waterlogging in several areas. Opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders have shared images and videos on X (formerly Twitter), criticising the BJP government.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj shared a video claiming waterlogging had occurred in Shalimar Bagh. ‘See the condition of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s own assembly, Shalimar Bagh,’ he wrote. In another post, Bharadwaj shared footage from Delhi’s Patparganj, also alleging waterlogging.

Meanwhile, the ongoing monsoon season has taken a devastating toll in Himachal Pradesh, where 85 lives have been lost so far—54 due to rain-related disasters and 31 in road accidents—according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
