The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to the mother of the teenager accused in the Pune Porsche crash case, in which two software engineers were killed.

New Delhi [India], April 23 (HBTV): The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to the mother of the teenager accused in the Pune Porsche crash case, in which two software engineers were killed after a speeding car collided with their motorbike.

The 49-year-old mother of the main accused was arrested for allegedly fabricating evidence by swapping her son’s blood sample in an attempt to shield him from legal consequences.

A bench headed by Justice B R Gavai noted that the woman had been incarcerated for more than 10 months. The bench was hearing her plea alongside two other cases concerning a legal issue on whether the grounds of arrest must be furnished to an accused either before detention or immediately afterwards.

While reserving its order on the broader legal issue, the bench granted interim relief to the mother of the teen accused, citing her prolonged incarceration.

The accused’s mother had moved the Supreme Court, challenging the Bombay High Court's decision to deny her interim bail. Her counsel argued that the investigating agency failed to furnish the grounds of arrest at the time of her detention.

Senior Advocate Vikram Chaudhary and Advocate Nikhil Jain represented the woman in the matter.

In June 2024, the father of the teen accused—also booked for allegedly manipulating the blood sample evidence—was granted bail by a Pune district court.

The teenage accused was sent to an observation home for 14 days until June 5, 2024, following the incident that occurred on the night of May 19, 2024, when his speeding Porsche hit a motorbike carrying two IT professionals, killing both the rider and the pillion.
