Gangktok, Sikkim, June 2 (HBTV): The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) on Sunday returned to power by sweeping the assembly polls in the Himalayan state, winning 31 of the state’s 32 seats, according to the Election Commission.
The opposition Sikkim Democratic Front could manage only one seat.
Elections to the Sikkim Assembly were held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls on April 19.
Sikkim Krantikari Morcha supremo Prem Singh Tamang on Sunday gave credit for the party’s landslide victory in the assembly election in the state to the hard work of the SKM cadre and the trust of the people in his government.
After the landslide win, Tamang who is also the chief minister, congratulated the party’s supporters and the voters of Sikkim.
Tamang said it was because of the love and trust of the people that the party managed to secure power.
Tamang won from both Rhenock and Soreng-Chakung constituencies that he contested in.
In 2019, the SKM had won 17 seats and unseated the Sikkim Democratic Front party, which had ruled the state for 25 years in a row.
