In a significant operation, police in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district detained 90 Bangladeshi nationals from Khajpur village under the jurisdiction of Police Station Nauhjheel, officials said.

Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 17 (HBTV): In a significant operation, police in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district detained 90 Bangladeshi nationals from Khajpur village under the jurisdiction of Police Station Nauhjheel, officials said on Friday.

According to Shlok Kumar, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), the inspection was part of a verification drive focused on identifying and checking the legal status of labourers working in the rural parts of the district.

‘During the checking of kilns in Khajpur village by the team of PS Nauhjheel, about 90 people were found to be citizens of Bangladesh. All of them have been taken into custody and are being questioned. There are 35 men, 27 women and 28 children,’ SSP Kumar said.

He further stated, ‘They said they reached Mathura 3–4 months ago; before that, they were living in a nearby state. Detailed interrogation is being done. Other agencies have also been informed about this. They are also questioning them.’

The development comes amid the Uttar Pradesh government's intensified campaign to identify and deport Bangladeshi and Rohingya nationals residing illegally in the state.

Officials noted that action had already been taken against Pakistani citizens living illegally in Uttar Pradesh. The state is now increasing its focus on Bangladeshi and Rohingya migrants, many of whom are believed to be living under altered identities in various districts.

Instructions have been issued to all District Magistrates, Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), and Police Commissioners to expedite the identification process.

Simultaneously, operations are also being conducted against unauthorised and illegal structures situated along the India-Nepal border.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Uttar Pradesh has become the first state in the country where 100 per cent of Pakistani nationals staying illegally have been sent back. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally oversees these repatriation efforts.

Notably, similar actions have been taking place in other states across the country in recent days.
