Panchkula (Haryana) [India], May 1 (HBTV): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated a newly constructed bridge over the Ghaggar river in Panchkula district and said that development works were being carried out speedily across the state. He added that the government has written a new definition of development over the past decade.

While addressing the gathering at the inauguration event, Saini stated that the ‘direction and condition’ of Haryana had changed ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's double-engine government came to power, with rapid development works underway.

‘By laying the foundation stones of small projects, development becomes fast-paced. Ever since PM Modi's double-engine government came to power in Haryana... along with Panchkula, Haryana's direction and condition have changed. Works are happening at a fast pace. In the past 10 years, we have written a new definition of development. The conditions of roads are such that it takes only about three to four hours to reach the other end of the state,’ Saini said.

On Friday, the Chief Minister criticised the previous Congress-led UPA government for introducing the original Waqf Bill in haste for ‘vote bank politics’ during 2013–2014 and claimed that it lacked provisions that genuinely served the interests of the Muslim community.

Saini alleged that the Congress introduced the bill purely for electoral gains, accusing the party of engaging in ‘shoddy politics’ and failing to acknowledge the improvements introduced in the amended legislation.

Reacting to the Supreme Court’s recent observations on the Waqf Amendment Act, the Chief Minister defended the legislation, stating that the amended Act is designed to benefit the entire Muslim community.

Earlier, while addressing participants at the 36th International Training Programme in Legislative Drafting, held at the Haryana Vidhan Sabha from April 16 to April 21, 2025, Saini said that it was essential to consider not only the language of the law, but also the emotions, needs, and aspirations of society during the legislative drafting process.

‘We are now steadily moving toward making the legislative process more modern, inclusive, and accessible,’ he said, according to a release.
