Manipur state forces deployed to vulnerable, sensitive areas

Manipur state police forces have reportedly been deployed to some sensitive and vulnerable areas of the state that had been experiencing repeated gunfights or firings by armed individuals.

Imphal, Manipur, February 21 (HBTV): Manipur state police forces have reportedly been deployed to some sensitive and vulnerable areas of the state that had been experiencing repeated gunfights or firings by armed individuals.

Manipur police forces have reportedly been deployed to the foothill areas of Andro AC adjoining Kangpokpi district since Monday.

Teams of the 6th Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) and 6th Manipur Rifles personnel have reportedly been stationed at NongpokKeithelmanbi, Laikhong, Itham, Tumukhong, and Maphou Dam.

Further, teams of the 5th IRB and the 7th Manipur Rifles have also been stationed at Sanjenlok near SinamKom in Imphal East district adjoining Kangpokpi district.

These villages had under heavy attack from gunmen in the recent past.           

However, it remains to be seen how effective the deployment of the state forces in the sensitive areas would be.

Since the ethnic violence erupted in the May 2023 in Manipur available records say more than 60,000 people have been displaced and approximately 175 have been killed.          

Reports of violence keep emerging every now and then from Manipur.
