Saikia said Congress workers allegedly throwing a water bottle at the convoy of Assam chief minister during a protest in Golaghat also reflects the growing frustration within the Congress party.

New Delhi [India], July 1 (HBTV): The incident in which Congress workers allegedly threw a water bottle at the convoy of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a protest in Golaghat on Monday is not only condemnable but also reflects the growing frustration within the Congress party, said Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia in a press statement.

Saikia stated that while democracy grants everyone the right to protest, such protests must remain peaceful and within democratic norms. He said that when a protest turns violent, it reveals the deep-seated frustration of the political party involved and termed such behaviour dangerous for democracy.

'With such a mindset, how can they even dream of forming a government?' he asked, targeting the Congress leadership.

The incident reportedly took place around 1:30 pm near Rajiv Bhawan, where Congress workers were staging a protest while wearing black badges. The protest was reportedly directed against cabinet minister Jayanta Mallabaruah.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday visited Sri Sri Athkhelia Namghar in Jorhat district, where he inaugurated a newly constructed Natghar (prayer house).

He offered prayers for the peace, prosperity, and well-being of the people of Assam. The development of the Namghar has been supported with financial assistance from the state government, which enabled the construction of guest accommodations, a designated facility for cleaning mah-prasad, and other essential infrastructure.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sarma recalled his earlier visit in 2021, during which the state government had committed to supporting the development of the religious site.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the Namghar management committee and their coordination with local MLA Ajanta Neog in carrying out the renovation and enhancement of the premises.
