Since the violence in the state started on May 3, 2023, a total of 11, 133 houses were set on fire and 18,371 families affected, said Singh in the assembly. 14,857 families are residing at relief camps and temporary shelter, Singh said in response to a starred question by Member of Legislative Assembly K Ranjit during the sixth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on Monday.
The chief minister said the state Cabinet has decided to give INR one lakh as relief to each family whose houses were burned during the ongoing violence.
As of now, INR 25,000 has been sanctioned to deputy commissioners as aid for 2,792 families. Out of it, aid has been given to nine in Imphal West, 115 in Imphal East, 512 in Bishnupur, and 2,156 in Kangpokpi.
Biren Singh clarified that there are some issues of land ownership as well as confusion in the verification of some houses that were burned down. For this reason, aid was not given although after verification aid will be given, Singh said.
