Agartala, Tripura, May 22 (HBTV): Tripura authorities have arrested a murder suspect, one Taur Ali, who allegedly killed his wife on suspicion she was having an illicit affair.

Ali was apprehended a day after allegedly killing his wife. The arrest took place in a remote area of Latiyapura Gram Panchayat, in Unakoti district. According to the police, Ali fled the scene following the incident but was eventually located hiding near a pond surrounded by paddy fields behind his house.

The officer in charge of Irani Police Station, Jatindra Das, provided details on the case: ‘In the early hours of Sunday, we received information about the death of Misaba Begum, the wife of the accused Taur Ali. A police team was dispatched to the scene, where they discovered severe neck injuries on the victim, inflicted by a sharp weapon. Taur Ali emerged as the prime suspect. He was missing immediately after the incident. The victim's mother filed a case against him.’

Das explained that multiple police teams were mobilized to locate Ali. A network of informants was put on high alert.

On the night of May 20, a tip-off led the police to his hiding place. "We received specific information that he was hiding near a pond surrounded by paddy fields. The officers left their vehicles several kilometers away and approached the location cautiously to avoid alerting him. Despite our efforts, he became aware of our presence, prompting a chase that eventually led to his capture," Das said.

When questioned about the motive, Das said, "Initial investigations indicate that the accused suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair. Neighbors reported frequent quarrels between the couple over these suspicions. On the night of the incident, they were engaged in a heated argument."
