Guwahati, Assam, February 18 (HBTV): Several hundred runners from various age groups from different parts of the country and abroad participated in a marathon on February 18 in Assam’s Guwahati for the cause of good health and fitness.

Assam’s Director General of Police GP Singh flagged off the 21-km Guwahati Marathon today, February 18.   

The Prerna IAS Officers' Wives' Association organized the event.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the event, GP Singh called the event ‘a very good thing.’ 

‘Fitness comes to the fore and fitness is very important. If everyone takes good care of the body and starts taking part in such events, it would be very good for Guwahati,’ he said.     

‘I have seen a lot of runners coming from outside. So, that brings Guwahati to the international stage,’ the official said.

‘I wish all the best to the organizers and hope that they will have this event as an annual event in the Guwahati calendar,’ Singh added.
