Mokokchung, April 08 (HBTV): In view of the bye-election to the 28 Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency, District Magistrate of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma has ordered the sealing of the inter-state border between Mokokchung district and Assam from 4:00 PM on April 7, 2026, to 6:00 PM on April 9.

The order was issued by the Deputy Commissioner's office, Mokokchung, on April 7.

According to the order, the Model Code of Conduct is currently in force across Mokokchung district, while the silent period under Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, began at 4:00 PM on April 7. It stated that all election-related campaigning for the bye-election must cease from that time.

Citing ground reports, the District Magistrate said the border sealing was necessary to prevent unlawful movement, inducement distribution, intimidation, and any other activity that could affect the conduct of the election in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.

Under the order, all inter-state border crossings except movement on the National Highway will remain sealed. Public movement by persons who are not registered voters of the concerned Assembly Constituency or administrative area will not be allowed during the period. Outsiders will also not be permitted to enter or move within the constituency or administrative area.

However, persons travelling on the National Highway may pass through only for bona fide transit.

Residents, traders, commuters, and the general public have been advised to plan their travel accordingly and avoid unnecessary movement in border areas during the restricted period to prevent inconvenience and violations.

Any violation of the order will invite prosecution under the relevant provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the BNS 2023, and other applicable laws, the order stated.
