New Delhi [India], May 28 (HBTV): In an extraordinary display of maternal devotion, a 60-year-old mother has donated an organ to her son for the second time, giving him the gift of life once again. The surgeries were carried out at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi.
The story began in 2015 when the mother donated a portion of her liver to her son, born in 1997, who had been diagnosed with a life-threatening liver condition. Nearly a decade later, the son suffered kidney failure, and the mother once again stepped forward — this time to donate one of her kidneys.
Despite her previous major surgery, she was declared medically fit to proceed with the donation. The complex laparoscopic donor nephrectomy was performed by the renal transplant team at ILBS, led by Dr Abhiyutthan Singh Jadaon, who successfully managed the complications arising from her prior liver surgery.
The transplant surgery for the recipient was managed by a team of nephrologists under the leadership of Dr RP Mathur, who overcame significant immunological challenges during the procedure. The transplant was successful, and the son was discharged after a 10-day recovery period.
This act of selfless sacrifice has granted the young man a new lease on life, highlighting a mother’s unwavering love and resilience.
In a separate incident earlier this month, on May 4, the wife of a 20-year-old driver made the courageous decision to donate his organs after he was declared brain dead following a tragic road accident.
Banoth Ramana, a resident of Warangal district in Telangana, met with an accident on April 27 when a tractor collided with his two-wheeler. He was taken to a private hospital in Hyderabad and was declared brain dead at 9:05 PM on May 1.
His wife, Kalyani, chose to donate his organs, which have now saved the lives of six patients. According to an official from Jeevandan, a Telangana government initiative, the donated organs included two kidneys, a liver, a heart, and two corneas. (ANI)
