New Delhi [India], May 13 (HBTV): Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan held discussions on Monday, and the talks have concluded for the day, according to sources.

Initially scheduled around noon, the DGMO-level talks were later rescheduled to the evening. These discussions follow a recent understanding reached between the two countries on Saturday to halt firing and military actions along the border. The understanding was initiated by a call from the Pakistan DGMO to his Indian counterpart, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai.

Lt Gen Ghai, addressing a joint press conference on Sunday, said the Pakistan DGMO had proposed a ceasefire during their interaction on Saturday.

‘My communication with the Pak DGMO was conducted at 15:35 hrs yesterday (Saturday) and resulted in cessation of cross-border firing and air intrusions by either side with effect from 17:00 hrs, May 10, after he proposed that we cease hostilities. We also decided to further speak on May 12 at 12:00 hrs to discuss the modalities that would enable the longevity of this understanding,’ he stated.

However, he noted that violations followed shortly after the agreement.

‘Disappointingly, expectedly, it took only a couple of hours for the Pakistan Army to violate these arrangements by cross-border and across the Line of Control (LoC) firing, followed by drone intrusions last night and in the early hours of today (Sunday). These violations were responded to robustly,’ he added.

Lt Gen Ghai confirmed that these violations were communicated to the Pakistan DGMO through a hotline message. He emphasised that India had made it clear that any repeated violations would be met with a fierce response, with the Chief of Army Staff granting full authority to Army Commanders to act accordingly.

The DGMO-level talks come in the wake of Operation Sindoor, launched by India on May 7 in response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, last month, which left 26 people dead. Under the operation, India targeted nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. (ANI)
