The Government e-Marketplace has facilitated cumulative procurement worth over ₹14.91 lakh crore across three crore orders, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said.

New Delhi [India], August 16 (HBTV): The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has facilitated cumulative procurement worth over ₹14.91 lakh crore across three crore orders, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Friday, marking the platform’s 9th anniversary.

For the financial year 2025–26, GeM has already recorded transactions of ₹1.52 lakh crore, the Minister informed in a post on social media platform X.

Launched on August 9, 2016, GeM has grown into India’s most trusted digital procurement platform, empowering sellers and service providers across the country, including women entrepreneurs, startups, MSEs, artisans, self-help groups (SHGs), and Divyangjans.

Growth trajectory

  • In 2024–25 alone, GeM clocked a gross merchandise value (GMV) of ₹5.4 lakh crore.

  • Over nine years, it has streamlined government procurement while promoting access, equity, and empowerment in governance.

The platform, designed to enable transparent, efficient, and inclusive public procurement, allows government departments and organisations to source goods and services through a centralised online system.

Minister’s remarks

Congratulating the GeM team, Goyal called the platform a cornerstone of transparency, inclusivity, and efficiency.

“GeM was launched to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.’ It has simplified procurement while ensuring broader participation and cost-effective transactions,” he said.

GeM has also been integrated with the e-Gram Swaraj portal to facilitate panchayat-level procurement — a step aimed at empowering grassroots governance.

According to the Minister, GeM’s growth reflects not just impressive numbers but also its deepening role in supporting local producers and aligning with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
