Mokokchung [Nagaland], November 18 (HornbillTV): Congress party members of the 23rd Impur assembly constituency merged with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party en masse on November 18.

A ‘merger programme’ was conducted at Asetkong Senden Salang in Kobulong sub-division in the presence of NDPP central leaders and Mokokchung region’s rank and file. NDPP president Chingwang Konyak was the chief patron at the event.

Konyak said there is a time for everything and the merger happened at the right time. He maintained that the NDPP has a strong leadership and the merger will strengthen the party even more.

He said that the NDPP’s pre-poll commitment to the people was to give a stable government and the party still stands on its commitment to give a stable government to the people.

There can be no development and progress in a state if there is an unstable government, he said.

Stating that all successive governments in Nagaland have worked for Naga political solution, Konyak spoke of achieving ‘permanent peace’ in the state which would usher developmental activities in the state besides giving more employment opportunities to unemployed youths.

According to officials, the Congress party members merged with the NDPP not for ‘status’ or ‘greed’ but to carve out a better future for the assembly constituency.
