Raja Raghuvanshi murder case: CCTV seized from Indore home of man who rented flat to accused Sonam

Police seized a CCTV DVR from the Indore residence of Shilom James, a property dealer who had allegedly rented out a flat to Sonam Raghuvanshi, a prime accused in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.

Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 24 (HBTV): A team from Shillong Police on Monday evening seized a CCTV DVR from the Indore residence of Shilom James, a property dealer who had allegedly rented out a flat to Sonam Raghuvanshi, one of the prime accused in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.

Shilom James was arrested on June 21 in connection with the ongoing investigation.

Earlier on Saturday, Govind Raghuvanshi, brother of the deceased Raja Raghuvanshi, called for strict punishment for Sonam.

‘The police are doing their work. We have demanded that strict action be taken... According to me, the police have investigated the case,’ he said.‘She (Sonam) has confessed to her crime, so now punishment should be given. The police have taken our statements. If the police call us to Shillong, we will go,’ he added.

On the same day, a district and sessions court in Shillong sent Sonam Raghuvanshi and co-accused Raj Kushwaha to 13 days of judicial custody in the case.

Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills district, Vivek Syiem, confirmed that both accused were remanded to judicial custody. Assistant Public Prosecutor Tushar Chanda stated that police did not request further custody and instead sought judicial remand.

‘The court has remanded both the accused for 13 days of judicial custody. The police did not ask for custody. The Investigating Officer pleaded for judicial custody. The court granted 13-day judicial custody,’ Chanda said.

So far, Meghalaya Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, a newlywed who had travelled to the state on his honeymoon. The accused include his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, along with Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, Raj Singh Kushwaha, and Anand.

Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was discovered in a gorge near Sohra (Cherrapunji) on June 2. Sonam was later found near a roadside dhaba along the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway.
