Kohima [Nagaland], December 20 (HornbillTV): The Nagaland legislative assembly has unanimously made a demand to the Govt of India to repeal the armed forces special powers act. This was decided at the 10th Session of the Thirteenth Nagaland Legislative Assembly where the issue on AFSPA was deliberated today in Kohima. 10 minutes each was alloted to 3 members each from different political parties like NPF, NDPP, BJP and Independent in the discussion on AFSPA. The Nagaland Legislative Assembly vehemently condemned the massacre that took place in Oting-Tiru Village area in Mon District on 4" December where indiscriminate firing by the 21 Para Special Forces of the Indian Army led to the death 13 innocent people followed by killing of one innocent person by security forces at Mon town on 5" December 2021, and injuring of 35 persons during the incidents. Besides condemning the brutal act, resolutions were passed during the session in connection to AFSPA. The chief minister of Nagaland in his speech, amongst other important points said that we should also remember that repealing of AFSPA will take some time as it will require Parliamentary approval and convincing the Government of India that the present situation in Nagaland does not require, or justify declaring the State as a 'disturbed area' for the purpose of imposing the provisions of the AFSPA. Leader of NPF and former chief minister of Nagaland also stated that all the incidents against civilians has fuelled danger and resentment against the Indian Army generating sharp reactions from many parts of North East India and the Country in general saying that if the matter is not resolved with all sincerity, particularly on the part of Government of India, the massacre of helpless and innocent civilians under Mon District may become a huge stumbling block to the ongoing peace talks.
