Dimapur, Nagaland, February 17 (HBTV): The Nagaland advisor for Nagaland School Education and SCERT, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, has called for ‘discernment’ amid the backlash from the public to his naming certain tribes of the state that they should not be ‘entrenched in primary teacher employment.’
Following the controversy over his statement about Sumi and Ao primary teachers, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, advisor for Nagaland School Education and SCERT released a statement on February 15.
The advisor clarified that it was never his intention to hurt anyone by mentioning the names of the tribes. Yhome has urged for ‘discernment’ and understanding in this regard.
Stating that the issue transpired from a public consultative event, he said statistical analysis that was presented were interpreted from facts and figures with the department of School Education, vis-à-vis
Service Rules 2017 and the plausible variant in linguistic teachers as envisaged under the National Education Policy of 2020.
Yhome clarified that the exercise was in no way avowed to selectively deny opportunities to any tribe or tribes, or qualified youth. He added that public policies are not formulated to be biased.
The advisor opined that a just distribution based on ‘respect and collective care’ was vital for a peaceful and honorable education solution, which he said despite the awareness, one rarely talks about.
Yhome however appreciated the positive public discourse that emerged from the row.
