Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], July 15 (HBTV): Chhattisgarh Finance Minister OP Choudhary on Friday presented a robust vision for Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, calling for strict action against bogus registrations and fake invoices.
Choudhary participated as a member of the Group of Ministers (GoM) in a key meeting held in New Delhi. The discussions focused on improving transparency, enhancing technological integration, and boosting efficiency in GST revenue collection. The GoM is chaired by Goa Chief Minister Pramod P Sawant.
During the meeting, Choudhary put forward several key recommendations aimed at curbing tax evasion, modernising registration systems, and preventing fraudulent input tax credit claims. He shared Chhattisgarh's policy interventions and experiences, stressing the importance of adopting technology-led solutions to tackle challenges in GST administration.
The discussions also included analysis of revenue trends, economic influences on GST collections, and the development of coordinated strategies for sustainable growth. Finance ministers from various states offered insights into factors impacting GST revenues in their respective regions.
Choudhary highlighted Chhattisgarh’s proactive measures to strengthen anti-evasion mechanisms and improve compliance. He noted that the state has extensively used advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence tools to detect irregularities, facilitate compliance, and safeguard genuine taxpayers—contributing to improved GST collections.
Presentations were made on platforms such as BIFA, GST Prime, and the e-Way Bill portal. Choudhary supported the nationwide adoption of these innovations for faster detection and action against fraudulent entities.
He also called for the development of a centralised digital framework to ensure transparency in registrations, eliminate fake invoices, and prevent bogus input tax credit claims. Such reforms, he said, would not only enhance revenue but also increase taxpayer confidence.
Choudhary emphasised that under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Chhattisgarh has implemented regular review systems and data-driven decision-making, yielding consistent and positive outcomes. He suggested that the state’s model could serve as a benchmark for others aiming to improve GST administration.
Calling for greater cooperation among states, Choudhary stressed the need for collective efforts to ensure stable and sustained GST revenue growth. He expressed confidence that the GoM’s recommendations would soon be adopted by the GST Council.
The meeting is expected to play a key role in shaping comprehensive GST reform proposals and advancing the future of tax administration and revenue mobilisation across the country.
