Haryana CM announces Rs 88.5 crore grant for cow shelters across state

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday announced a grant of Rs 88.50 crore for cow shelters across the state, reiterating his government’s commitment to cattle welfare and protection.

Kurukshetra (Haryana) [India], August 24 (HBTV): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced a grant of Rs 88.50 crore for cow shelters across the state, reiterating his government’s commitment to cattle welfare and protection.

Addressing a gathering in Kurukshetra, the Chief Minister underlined the rise in budgetary support for gaushalas since 2014.

“In 2014, the budget for cow shelters in Haryana was only Rs 2 crore. Today, I am happy to announce a grant of Rs 1.80 crore for fodder to 19 cow shelters in Kurukshetra district. In addition, Rs 88.50 crore will be distributed to all cow shelters across Haryana,” Saini said.

He further noted that over the last decade, the state government has allocated Rs 270 crore for fodder to registered cow shelters. With the latest grant, the cumulative allocation has reached Rs 358.50 crore.

“Our government is committed to ensuring fodder, safety, and protection for the mother cow,” he added.

Earlier in the day, CM Saini distributed Rs 76 crore to 2,020 families under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Antodaya Parivar Suraksha Yojana (DAYALU) in Chandigarh.

“Today’s event has been organised to provide relief to families affected by the death of a member. Under this scheme, Rs 76 crore has been transferred to the accounts of 2,020 families,” Saini said.

The Chief Minister noted that since the scheme’s launch on April 1, 2023, a total of Rs 1,380 crore has been disbursed to 36,351 families, including Rs 118 crore last month. The scheme provides financial assistance of up to Rs 5 lakh in cases of death or permanent disability of a family member aged 6 to 60 years, with an annual family income below Rs 1.80 lakh.

According to the Haryana Parivar Suraksha Nyas, the assistance varies with age:

  • Rs 1 lakh (6–12 years)

  • Rs 2 lakh (12–18 years)

  • Rs 3 lakh (18–25 years)

  • Rs 5 lakh (25–45 years)

  • Rs 3 lakh (45–60 years)

CM Saini also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate six road projects for Delhi NCR and Haryana, worth Rs 11,000 crore, on August 17.
