Guwahati, Assam, August 2 (HBTV): In a breakthrough in the almost 15-month-long ethnic conflict in Manipur between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, the Meitei and Hmar communities in Assam’s Cachar have reached several agreements.
A significant meeting took place at the CRPF’s Group Centre at Dayapur in Cachar of Assam where representatives from the Meitei and Hmar communities of Jiribam district convened. Moderated by the Jiribam district administration, the meeting included key government officials and police and paramilitary establishments, and representatives from the Thadou, Mizo, and Paite communities. The next hearing is scheduled to take place after August 15, updates said.
These agreements between the sides aim at restoring and maintaining peace to bring normalcy and prevent incidents of arson and shooting. It also seeks to ensure full cooperation with the security forces, and to facilitate controlled and coordinated movement in the region.
Both sides have agreed to give full cooperation to all the security forces operating in Jiribam, updates said.
