Agartala (Tripura) [India], May 1 (HBTV): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha stated that the unemployment rate in the state has dropped significantly, with his government having provided employment to 17,554 individuals as of March 2025.

Saha made the remarks while attending an appointment letter distribution ceremony for 228 Under Graduate Teacher (UGT) and Graduate Teacher (GT) posts under the state government’s Education Department at the Nazrul Kalakshetra Auditorium in Agartala.

The Chief Minister, who also serves as the state’s Education Minister, noted that the process of issuing appointment letters has been ongoing for the past few months.

‘Arrangements will be made to provide offers in the coming days as well. The government is following due procedures. It is not the aim of this government to deprive anyone. Through transparency, appointment letters have been distributed today to 228 people in the Education Department,’ he said on Wednesday.

‘Out of these, 66 are UGT and 162 are GT. The government has clear recruitment guidelines to ensure that examinations are conducted transparently. I extend my sincere greetings and congratulations to those receiving their appointment letters today on behalf of the state government. I also hope that their career will be beautiful and bright,’ he added.

Saha informed that the TET II examination was held on April 27, while the TET I examination is scheduled for May 4.

He emphasised that one of the government’s key objectives is to accelerate administrative processes through transparent governance.

‘The government is working in this direction. In addition to creating new posts in various departments, initiatives have been taken to fill existing vacancies. Since our government came to power, 17,554 people, including die-in-harness cases, have received government jobs by March 2025 through a transparent recruitment policy. To prevent disruptions in governance, staff are also being recruited through outsourcing,’ he said.

The Chief Minister added that no major challenges have been encountered thus far, as the recruitment processes have been based on transparency.

‘Our promise is to provide jobs and ensure employment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly stressed the importance of transparency. The employment environment in the state has improved. More than 2,900 people have been employed in government and private sectors as security guards and in other services through various agencies. Over 1,600 jobs have been created in the industrial sector in the last three years through the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation,’ he said.

Saha also highlighted that the government is placing special emphasis on skill development and vocational education.

‘According to a survey, the unemployment rate in our state during 2018–19 was much higher than the national average. The state’s rate was 10%, whereas in the financial year 2023–24, it has dropped to 1.7%,’ he said.

Chief Whip of the Legislative Assembly Kalyani Saha Roy, Special Secretary of the Education Department Ravel Hemendra Kumar, Director NC Sharma, and other officials were present as distinguished guests at the offer distribution ceremony.
