Balrampur (Chhattisgarh) [India], August 25 (HBTV): A visually impaired family of three in Gobindpur village, Balrampur district, has been provided a permanent house under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Awas Yojana.
Krishna and Anisha, along with their four-year-old daughter Rupali, had been living in a kutcha house and facing several difficulties. Under the PMAY-G initiative, they have now shifted to a permanent home.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a flagship programme of the Ministry of Rural Development, implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. It aims to provide permanent housing with basic amenities to homeless families or those living in kutcha or dilapidated houses. The scheme is divided into two parts—PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U) and PMAY-Rural (Gramin) (PMAY-G).
PMAY-G specifically addresses housing shortages in rural India. The minimum size of houses under this initiative is 25 square metres. Beneficiaries are identified through the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) and verified by gram sabhas.
Chief Executive Officer, Janpad Panchayat Balrampur, Deepraj Kant, said Krishna and his family faced many challenges earlier. ‘Through this scheme, Krishna, a Pahadi Korwa, got a permanent house. Earlier, he lived in a kutcha house. Since his family is visually impaired, they had to face a lot of problems,’ he said.
Gobindpur Sarpanch Saroj Paikara expressed gratitude for the scheme. ‘Earlier, they used to live in a kutcha house where water leaked during the rainy season. Now, PM Modi has given them a pucca house, which has made them very happy. We villagers thank PM Modi for the house he has given,’ she said.
