Silchar, Assam, June 1 (HBTV): In a shocking incident, the parents of a baby girl in Assam allegedly poured hot oil over her in a bid to stop her crying.      

A couple in Assam’s Silchar was arrested on Saturday for torturing their three-year-old daughter. The arrested couple has been identified as one Rajdeep Das and a Jaba Das. The two reportedly poured hot oil over their daughter to force her to stop crying.      

The incident occurred at a rented house in Sonai Road's Saratpally lane. Hearing the commotion, the landlord reportedly came to the rescue of the child and filed a First Information Report against the couple.        

Workers of the child welfare agency Childline also rushed to Rangirkhari police station and took the baby for treatment at Silchar Medical college and hospital.          

A member of Childline, Prashant Deb, said the child is currently in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and showing signs of fever. The physicians have advised the caretakers to seek her admission to SMCH to stop infections due to the burns the little girl suffered.
